Johnson’s “Life.” Selected as an Official Pulpwood Queen’s Bonus Book Selection.

On November 4th, 2006, Johnson will head to Jefferson, Texas where he will be one of a handful of authors featured in the BOOKS ALIVE! Book festival organized and produced by Kathy Patrick of Beauty and the Book (www.beautyandthebook.com). Beauty and the Book, the country’s only beauty shop and book store is the founding inspiration behind the forty plus Pulpwood Queens book clubs across the country. And now, the Pulpwood Queen’s roster of clubs has reached international status as a book club chapter just opened in Thailand. Patrick and Beauty and the Book, as featured on such popular telecasts as Good Morning America, have been become prominent and influential across America as a source for discovering new and emerging literary talent.

“My South” Campaign

Johnson, a native of South Carolina, and Thiessen, a native “Southern” Californian and self-professed “Southerner at Heart” were recently featured in the Turner South Network’s “My South” promotional campaign along with other noted celebrities including Angela Bassett, Morgan Freeman, Mimi Rogers, Mary Steenburgen, Raven Symone,.Nancy O’Dell,and Fannie Flagg among others.

Johnson wrote and Thiessen directed “Just Pray,” the award winning, live action narrative set in the South. Johnson is also the author of “Life. Be There At Ten ‘Til.”, a collection of twenty five non-fiction stories of life in the South.

Turner South, Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.’s 24-hour regional entertainment network, presents a mix of original programming, movies, regional news and sports to cable and DBS affiliates in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee and regions of North Carolina. Cerritos College hosts Johnson and Thiessen for Q & A Panel

March 17, 2006
In celebraton of women’s history month at Cerritos College, R. Dean Johnson and producing partner Tiffani Thiessen were invited to chair a panel discussion on independent film making in Hollywood and the relative significance that women maintain within the entertainment industry’s landscape. The producers film, “Just Pray” (written by Johnson and directed by Thiessen) was shown to the audience first. Afterwards, a Q & A session was held as the two enlightened attendees with interesting facts and commentaries regarding women in Hollywood and their roles throughout the entertainment industry’s history.

Author to sign book at Hagood House

Author and award winning producer/screenwriter R. Dean Johnson will sign copies of his re-released book, Life. Be There At Ten Til. Sunday, Jan/ 8 from 4-7 p.m. at The Hagood House, the recently restored bed and breakfast located at 343 8th Avenue in downtown Aynor. The public is cordially invited to this dual celebration honoring a book’s re-release and a historical home’s new lease on life.

Johnson is in town to sign copies of his book which was just re-released in September. The book was first released in 2003 and received both favorable reader response and critical reviews. So much so that Johnson’s publisher, iUniverse, re-released the manuscript under a complete redesign including a new cover, new chapters, new reader’s guide and new reviews.
